Superb victory for Martin Fagan in National Junior 3000 metres

Last weekend, the National Senior Track and Field Championships took place in glorious sunshine at the Morton Stadium in Santry. Mullingar Harriers was well represented in the Junior Men’s 3000 metres, where Martin Fagan had an excellent victory, with Mark Christie also having a very good race finishing second. This concludes a very good season for Martin, whose winning time was 8.27.50. Mark ran a personal best time of 8.34.32. He too has had a very good season.

Martin and Mark are two of the most talented young athletes in the country, as demonstrated recently when they were both presented with EBS Young Athlete Awards for October and November 2001, respectively. They are role models for all of our young athletes.

In late August Martin will be departing Mullingar, in order to take up an athletics scholarship at Providence College in the U.S.A, he is wished all the best from everyone in Mullingar Harriers.
