Athletics Leinster Senior & Junior CC. On Sunday, 20th January we travelled to Tinryland, Co. Carlow for the Leinster Senior and Junior Cross-Country Championships and Juvenile Relays. In ideal conditions for cross-country running, there was some very exciting races on the testing course. The Juvenile Relays were all tightly contested and all of our teams performed very well, with many of them getting into the medals. In the Girls Under 11 relay we were lucky enough to have three teams competing. Our A team of Aoife Hogan, Maria McGivney, Jessica Lynch and Sinéad Duffy ran really well to win silver medals, as did our B team of Emily McCormack, Tracy Coughlan, Anna Broderick and Deirdre O'Donavan who finished just out of the medals in fourth place. Also our C team of Shonagh Kenny, Claire Flynn, Erin Duncan and Arlene Coughlan did well in finishing seventh. Our Girls Under 13 team of Amy Drew, Sarah Drew, Olive Butler and Jessica Lynch also ran well to finish seventh. In a very exciting Boys Under 13 relay our A team of Simon Moorehead, Alan Stenson, Conor Nugent ans Stephen Moran were convincing winners, while our B team of Kevin Duggan, Paul Flynn, Stephen Burke and Lorcan Smyth finished a good seventh. Our Girls Under 15 team of Joanne Harney, Áine Devaney, Olive Butler and Melanie Lynch were also dominant, emerging clear winners. In the final relay of the day our Boys Under 15 team of Ciarán O'Meara, David Hynes, Brian O'Donavan and Tomás Devaney ran very strongly to take the bronze medals. For our Juvenile athletes this completes the cross-country season and the next competition will be the Leinster Indoors. The Junior Women's race was very exciting and Louise Moore produced another storming finish to win the bronze medal. Well supported by Áine Devaney, Joanne Harney and Melanie Lynch and Ruth O'Meara the team finished an excellent second in the club competition and third in the county. Our Junior Men's team, although understrength, did very well to finish fourth club. One of the performances of the day was from Damien Shaw who finished an excellent fourth, certainly an athlete for the future. Conor Twomey had another good run finishing eighth, while Ciarán O'Meara and Ger Feerick also ran well. The penultimate race of the day was the Senior Women's and Caroline Harney ran another consistent race in eighth place. Vera Flynn also had a good run, finishing eleventh, as did Brigid McCabe. In the Senior Mens race Patrick Muldoon, having his first Senior race finished a very credible thirteenth. Richard Heighton, Pat Muldoon and Nicky Mc Cabe all ran well.

AAI National Veteran Indoors. On Saturday, 19th January, the National Veteran Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh, and saw some excellent performances from club athletes. Greg Duggan gace an excellent sprinting performance to finish second in the 60 metres, just beaten in a photo finish. Seán McMullin ran excellently to win his category of the 3000 metres and finished fourth in his category of the 800 metres.
