Congratulations to Amie Giles
and Shane Boggs on being honoured by Athletics Leinster as the recipients of Leinster Star Awards in
recognition of their performances at Leinster Championships in 2008.
Amie received her Award at a Gala Function
in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow on Friday 9th January, and the personalised cut crystal Award will be a constant reminder of
her achievements and should inspire her to even greater things.
Congratulations also to discus thrower
and shot putter Justin Collins of North Westmeath AC who received the Senior award.

All our Juvenile cross country athletes should also be very proud as Mullingar yet again retained the
Jimmy Morrissey Memorial Cup for
the best Juvenile cross country Club in Leinster. Given the fantastic performances
in Avondale and Abbeyleix it is really no surprise that Mullingar was the runaway winner of the Cup once more, with nearly
three times the points total of the second placed Club. Mullingar has won this Cup every year since it was first presented
in 2001.
We're getting very used to winning the Morrissey Cup, but Westmeath also won
the Rosemary Foley Memorial Cup for best Juvenile cross country County in
Leinster. This is the first time we've won this Cup and as only Mullingar Harriers athletes
competed on Westmeath teams in 2008, we can regard this as a double award for the Club.
Receiving
the Morrissey and Foley Cups is a magnificent achievement for the Club's Juvenile cross country athletes and
reflects all their hard work put in at training.

Of course it wasn't all about Cross Country athletics and among the Awards for Track & Field,
Mullingar was: - 2nd Club (out of 48) for u/13-15 (Quinn
Cup) - 7th Club (out of 48) for u/16-19 (Eurotab
Cup) - 11th Club (out of 30) for Junior & u/23 (Dew Shield) - 12th Club (out of 50) for Indoors
(Byrne Cup) - 16th Club (out of 32) for Senior
Perhaps 2009 will see Mullingar climb the tables and win
a Club Award for Track & Field?
