As
is now the norm, Mullingar was very well represented among the 3,500 or so competitors at the annual 10 mile road
race in Ballycotton, Co. Cork on Sunday 8th March where Liam McGlynn
demonstrated his huge return to racing form and was first home for Mullingar, finishing in 61 minutes, which placed him well
up in his master age-category. Aidan Gorry was next in with another very good
run (62mins), followed by Eva Ross who had a particularly good race, Ciara Dillon, Enda Mimnagh, John
Bannon, Vera McCool (6th in her master category),
Joan Dillon, Aidan Daly, Niamh Dillon, Breda Daly, Paul
McCool, Seamus Bracken, Breda
McDonnell (3rd master category), Nicky McCabe,
Des Walsh (12th master category), Geraldine
Walsh (2nd master category), Pat Nugent, Martha Marshall (7th master category) and Sinead
Marshall, all running well and soaking up the terrific atmosphere that surrounds this event.
An
interesting feature of the performances by the Mullingar athletes, was that most ran the second half quicker than the first.
This is despite the fact that the return 5 miles is uphill and one would expect it to be slower, but the Mullingar athletes
showed great racing experience and clearly paced themselves well and avoided the pitfall of going out too fast and suffering
in the latter stages. Very well done to them all for being such great ambassadors for the Club on the road race circuit.
