Getting
his outdoor season off to a flying start at the oddly named “Baldy”
Castillo Invitational on 21st March at the Sun Angel Stadium, Arizona
State University, Damien Bateman was only narrowly beaten into second
place over 1,500m by just three hundredths of a second, but his compensation was a new personal best of 3:46.60,
which equates to a mere 3 seconds outside the magic 4-minute mile.
This is terrific racing and coming so early in the season, surely sets Damien up for what should be
an exciting season for him. You must be wondering; Senon “Baldy” Castillo was the legendary
Arizona State University athletics coach who died last January at the age of 90. Now you know!
