Martin Fagan and Mark Christie excel in Thun,
Good Performances at National C'ships in Rostrevor
Congratulations to Martin Fagan and Mark Christie
on their excellent performances in the European Junior Cross Country, which took place in Thun, Switzerland on 9th December.
Martin was 2nd Irish scorer in 31st place, and Mark was 3rd scorer in 36th, helping the Irish team to a very credible 6th

Meanwhile, also on Sunday 9th December, the AAI
National Juvenile Uneven age Championships plus Novice Men and Women took place in Rostrevor, Co. Down. On a super course
and in ideal conditions the best athletes in the country were in action.
Our Girls Under 11 team have put in a huge effort
in training and it showed when they won the title and the Gold medals for Mullingar for the very first time. They were led
home by the ever reliable Sinéad Duffy, who also scored on the Leinster team. Next came Maria McGivney, Aoife Hogan, Jessica
Lynch, Tracey Coughlan and Anna Broderick. This is a team thet should be around for a few years. In the Boys Under 13 race
Alan Stenson had an excellent run, coming with a great finish to get 4th place and lead Leinster into the medals. The Boys
Under 15 race saw the club just miss out on the team medals but not so David Hynes and Ciarán O'Meara, both of whom finished
11th and 12th respectively, and being on the winning Leinster team. Next came Brian O'Donavan, Tomás Devaney and Stephen Burke.
Our Girls Under 15 team missed out on bronze medals by a mere 4 points. Joanne Harney was our top finisher, scoring on the
Leinster team, followed by Áine Devaney, Ellen Colton, Melanie Lynch and Aoife Bateman. Conor Twomey had a great race in the
Boys Under 17 followed by good runs from newcomer Damien Shaw, Owen O'Meara, Denis Connolly and Ger Feerick. Louise Moore
had another excellent run in the Girls Under 17 race, followed by Elaine Butler and Ruth O'Meara. Caroline Harney has had
an excellent season and had another great run in the Novice Ladies race, finishing 4th. While in the Novice Mens race Patrick

Martin Fagan and Mark Christie on Irish team for
European CC, Excellent performances at National C'shps in Dungarvan
Congratulations to Martin Fagan and Mark Christie
on being selected on the Irish team for the European Junior Cross-Country, which takes place in Thun, Switzerland on 9th December.
This is a most deserved honour for both athletes. Both have represented Ireland before and are wished the best of luck in
Switzerland.
The AAI National Inter-counties and Juvenile Cross
Country Championships took place in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford on Sunday, 25th November. On an excellent course and in sunny
conditions, these championships produced some very exciting races. The highlight from a Mullingar Harriers perspective was
undoubtedly the outstanding performances from Martin Fagan and Mark Christie in winning individual titles. Mark won by a massive
margin in the Boys Under 16 race while Martin beat a top class field to take both the Under 18 and Junior Mens titles.
In the Boys Under 14 race, David Hynes had an outstanding
run to finish second, leading Leinster victory. Alan Stenson finished in a ver good 12th position and was also part of the
winning Leinster team.
Caroline Harney also had an excellent run to finish
2nd in the U23 Championships which was run in conjunction with the Senior Women's Race.
Aoife Hogan also had an excellent run finishing
in 6th place in the Girls Under 10 race, a great result.
In the Girls Under 16 race Louise Moore finished
very strongly in 4th place, another excellent run, leading Leinster to silver medals and also the club to bronze medals with
great team running from Áine Devaney, Melanie Lynch, Elaine Butler and Ruth O'Meara.
The Boys Under 18 team also won bronze medals with
Martin Fagan in first place followed by good runs from Conor Twomey, Ronan Doolin, Owen O'Meara and Dermot Cafferty. Patrick
Muldoon finished a very good 8th in the Junior Mens Race.
Paul Flynn had a good run in the Boys Under 12
race, being part of the Leinster team. The Girls Under 12 team of Sinéad Duffy, Maria McGivney, Jessica Lynch, Tracey Coughlan
and Emily McCormack all ran well, also our Boys Under 14 team, in addition to our two medalists David Hynes and Alan Stenson,
Tomás Devaney, Stephen Burke, Ciarán Newman and Kevin Duggan. Likewise, the Boys Under 16 team, led home by Mark Christie
saw fine running from Ciarán O'Meara, Denis Connolly and Ger Feerick. It was a great day for the club and we now all look
forward to the All Ireland Juvenile Uneven Championships and Novice Championships in Rostrevor, Co. Down.

Excellent performances at Crettyard
The second round of the Leinster Cross Country
Championships were held in summer-like conditions at Crettyard Co Laois on Sunday last, 18th November. On an ideal course,the
huge crowd were treated to a most exciting afternoons sport and for the Club it was another day to savour with each and every
athlete giving of their best and achieving superb results.Three of our athletes struck gold by wining individual
titles which was a wonderful achievement. Alan Stenson ran the race of his life to win his first Leinster title.
Mark Christie continued his amazing record in these Championships with another fine win.To cap it all, Caroline Harney
was a very popular and deserving winner of the Intermediate Ladies race, producing a stunning piece of running to win
by over a hundred metres. The first race of the day saw our Under 11 girls dominate, with four in the first fifteen, winning
gold in the Club and silver in the County. First home was Sinead Duffy followed by Jessica Lynch, Marie McGivneyand
Aoife Hogan.Next came Sinead Walker(Tubberclaire), Anna Broderick,Tracey Coughlan, Emily McCormack,Deirdre O'Donovan
and Shonagh Kenny.This team should do well in All-Irelands next month.In the Boys Under 11,Niall Darby had a fine run with
Ronan Tyrrell also finishing well up.In the Girls Under 13 race, our two runners Sarah & Amy Drew both ran well.Next up
were the Boys Under 13 with Alan Stenson coming home a clear winner followed by newcomer Conor Nugent, Stephen Moran and Kevin
Duggan. Unfortunately, Paul Flynn had to drop out due to injury when in the leading group.The Girls Under 15 squad, although
understrength did very well to get into the medals,with Joanne Harney finishing a brilliant fourth followed by AinneDevaney
who recovered from a fall at the start,Melanie Lynch and Aoife Bateman.The Boys U15 team also impressed, finishing second
team with Ciaran O'Meara 5th, David Hynes 6th followed by newcommer Brian O'Donovan and Tomas Devaney finishing together,Stephen Burke
and Ciaran Newman The Girls Under 17 team also excelled winning the silver medals with Louise Moore running another excellent
race in third place, followed closely by Ruth O'Meara and Elaine Butler.The Boys Under 17 team struck Gold being led home
by Mark Christie closely followed by Conor Twomey,Dermot Cafferty, Owen O Meara, Denis Connolly and Ger Feerick. This team
should also figure prominently in the All-Irelands. Many Thanks to the many parents and supporters who travelled to cheer
on the athletes.Congratulations to former club member Sandra Gowran who was on the winning Dublin Team in the Ladies Intermediate
race,finishing in 10th place.

5 Teams Qualify for All-Ireland
Finals
The long journey to Rathdrum, County
Wicklow on Sunday last for the Leinster Even Age Groups, Novice and Veterans Cross-Country proved to be a most fruitful one
for Mullingar athletes. In all 5 teams qualified for the All-Ireland Championships in Dungarvan later this month. First into
action were the Girls Under 10 and Aoife Hogan ran a excellent race to take the Leinster title. Next came Arlene Coughlan,
Claire Flynn, Kate Gowran and Shonagh Kenny; all ran well and the team just missed out on the medals. Ben
Hogan had a good run in the Boys Under 10 race. Our Girls Under 12 team finished a very good second. Sarah Drew led
the way finishing a good 8th overall and she was followed in quick succession by Sinéad Duffy, Jessica Lynch, Maria
McGivney, Tracey Coughlan, Elaine Pollard and Emily McCormack. In the Boys Under 12 race, Paul Flynn finished
well up, followed by Niall Darby and Ronan Tyrrell. In the Girls Under 14, Joanne Harney finished a good 10th,
qualifying for the All-Ireland. Next came Ellen Colton, Amy Drew, Louise Heavin and Claire Moore. Our Boys
Under 14 team had an excellent victory in the club competition, and finished 3rd county. David Hynes had another excellent
run finishing 3rd, as did Alan Stenson who finished 6th. Simon Moorehead, Tomás Devanney, Stephen Burke, Ciarán Newman, Stephen
Moran and Kevin Duggan ensured team success. The Girls Under 16 race saw another team victory for Mullingar, and the
team also finished 3rd county. Louise Moore ran an excellent race finishing 2nd Individual. Next came Melanie Lynch, Áine
Devanney, Elaine Butler, Ruth O'Meara and Aoife Bateman, all running really well. Mark Christie was a convincing winner
of the Boys Under 16 race with another excellent run. He lead the team to bronze medals with Ciarán O'Meara, finishing well
up, followed by Pat Costello and Ger Feerick. Martin Fagan also convincingly won the Boys Under 18 race, leading the
team to victory in both club and county competitions. Ronan Doolin was next, just ahead of Conor Twomey, Denis Connolly, Eoin
O'Meara and Dermot Cafferty. In the Novice Ladies race Caroline Harney had a very good run finishing 5th, as did Patrick Muldoon
who also finished 5th in the Novice Mens race. Vera Flynn and Brigid McCabe both finished well up in their respective
categories of the Veteran Ladies race. Our Veterans Mens team of Pat Muldoon, Nicky McCabe, Séan McMullan, Christy Creagh
and Greg Duggan all ran well and finished well up in the team competition. All in all it was a great day for the club and
augurs well for further success in the All-Ireland Finals in Dungarvan.

13th in the Bupa Ireland Loughrea '5' which took place on Sunday, 21st October. He ran a personal best time of 24.14 for the

Rathfarnham 5k; Athlone 10k
The Rathfarnham 5k took place on
Sunday, 7th October. This is now established as one of the best road races in the country and it lived up to expectations.
Over 500 athletes took part and the course records were broken in both the men’s and women’s races. From a Mullingar
perspective, it was a great day. David Burke was in top form when finishing sixth in the senior men’s Race; as was Martin
Fagan, when finishing just behind David in eighth place. Martin comfortably won the Junior Race. Patrick Muldoon had a good
run, finishing third in the Junior Race. Pat Muldoon and Christy Creagh finished well up in their repective Veteran categories,
while Ciaran Nolan also had a good run.

came Vera Flynn, who was won a prize in the Senior Ladies. Sean Mc Mullan had a good victory in his Veteran category while
Nicky McCabe and Frank Dillon also ran well.

Portumna & Craughwell CC
The trip to Killimor Co Galway
last Sunday proved a successful one for Club Athletes.The course was an excellent and typical cross country course
with hills,a drain and good underfoot conditions. First into action were the Girls U9 withShauna Kenny
having a very good run to finish 2nd followed by Emer Flynn. In the Girls U11 race the strong Mullingar squad
packed very well and were led home by Aoife Hogan in 2nd, Sinead Duffy in 4th,Jessica Lynch 5th,closely followed
by Claire Flynn,Anna Broderick and Deirdre O'Donovan. The Girls U13 race saw Sarah Drew, Rachel Moorhead and Ami Drew all
finish well up. We had a good turn out in the Girls U15 race with Joanne Harney our top finisher just ahead of Ellen Colton,
Aine Devaney and Melanie Lynch. Well done to Louise Moore who was back in form when finishing 2nd in the Junior
Ladies race and to Caroline Harney who got into the prizes in the Senior Ladies race. In the Boys U11
Ronan Tyrrell ran a very good race and finished well up. In the Boys U13 race Alan Stensen finished a close up 4th, with Simon
Moorhead 5th. In the Boys U15, Ciaran O'Meara ran the best race of his career when finishing 2nd just ahead of the fast-finishing
David Hynes in 3rd with Thomas Devaney close behind. The Senior,Junior and Veteran Mens race saw a huge entry, with
Denis Connolly and Owen O'Meara both figuring prominently in the Junior while Sean McMullan and Greg Duggan both enjoyed
the tough course and finished well up in their categories.

Star of the Sea
Cross Country
The annual Star of the Sea
Cross Country Meeting took place in Julianstown, Co. Meath on Sunday last. Conditions were ideal for running on what proved
to be a testing course, which included a steep hill. It was a very successful day for the club with almost all our athletes,
coming home with prizes.
The Girls Under 8 Race was the first event of the
day and it saw a good victory for Mullingar in the team competition. Arlene Coughlan ran an excellent race finishing third
and Katie Kenny and Emer Flynn ensured team victory. In the Girls Under 9 Race,
Shauna Kenny finished an excellent second, while Sarah-Jane Kenny also ran really well finishing fifth. The Girls Under 10
Race saw an excellent victory for Aoife Hogan, and she was followed by Anna Broderick and Claire Flynn, ensuring another team
victory. The Girls Under 11 team of Jessica Lynch, Tracey Coughlan, Orla Boylan
and Deirdre O’Donovan finished a good second in the team competition. Incidentally, Tracey and Arlene Coughlan are daughters
of the former Westmeath footballing great, Eamonn Coughlan. The Girls Under 12
team of Sarah Drew, Rachel Moorehead and Jean Murtagh also finished second. In the Girls Under 13 Race Ami Drew and Katie
Crowley both ran very well.
We were fortunate enough to have two teams in the
Girls Under 16 Race. Our ‘A’ team of Louise Moore, who finished a good third in the individual race, Joanne Harney
and Aine Devanney finished second; while our ‘B’ team of Melanie Lynch, Ruth O’Meara and Aoife Bateman finished
third. The penultimate race of the day was the combined Junior and Senior Women’s Race. Caroline Harney showed excellent
form when finishing second in the senior ladies race. Newcomer Lynn Algar finished a very good sixth Junior Lady and Louise
Moore ensured that Mullingar finished second in the team competition.
We had a smaller number of Boys teams taking
part, but nonetheless they were very successful. The Boys Under13 team of Alan
Stenson, Simon Moorehead, Stephen Moran and Kevin Duggan all ran very well to finish first in the team competition. The Boys
Under 14 Race saw an outstanding run from David Hynes to win, also Tomas Devanney ran very well. In the Boys Under 16 Ciaran O’Meara, who is improving with every race, had a very good run when finishing
fifth.
The final event of the day was the combined Junior
and Senior Men’s Race. Patrick Muldoon, with a good track season behind him, was a clear winner of the Junior Men’s
Race. Denis Connolly had another good run, finishing sixth , one place ahead of Conor, Twomey. Owen O’Meara also ran
well, and Ciaran Nolan finished well up in the Senior Men’s Race. All in
all it was a great start to the cross country season; and the competition gained will stand to the athletes who competed,
in their preparations for the upcoming championship races. Some athletes were
unable to travel, but will be available to travel to our next Cross Country outing on Sunday next. There were some very talented
newcomers on view and it augurs well for future success.

AAI National Half - Marathon C'Ships
The AAI National Half - Marathon Championships took
place in Dunboyne, Co. Meath on Sunday last. It was a very successful staging of the event with well in excess of 100 competitors
taking part. The hot humid weather prevented athletes running exceptionally fast times but nonetheless, the four Mullingar
athletes competing aquitted themselves very well.
Patrick Muldoon running his first Half - Marathon showed
that he has a great liking for the distance. He was in the top thirty throughout the race and finished strongly in a time
of 75.05. for 26th place. Only a few places behind Patrick came Nollaig McEntaggert. The ultra - consistent athlete showed
great form throughout and finished in a very good time of 76.38. In quick succession to Nollaig, Matt Glennon finished strongly
in a time of 79.39. Here is an athlete who has improved immensely over the last few months. Seán McMullan ran a very solid
race and finished well up in the large field. It was nice for the club to field a Senior team, albeit understrength, in these
Championships. The team Competition was very tightly contested with only seconds separating the first 5 Clubs. Mullingar finished
a commendable 9th and it augurs well for our chances in the All-Ireland Novice & Intermediate CC over the next few months.
Meanwhile, on Saturday Pat Muldoon was competing in
the BHAA Cityswift 10 in Dublin. He continued his recent good form when finishing 2nd in the Veterans 0/45 category in a good
time of 62.08.

Excellent performances from Mullingar athletes at
National Veterans Track & Field
The National Veteran Track and Field Championships took
place in sunny conditions in Tullamore on Saturday, 11th August. There were some very good performances from Mullingar athletes.
Pat Muldoon was in excellent form when finishing 3rd in the V45 5000 metres. Geraldine Walsh also ran excellently when winning
bronze in her category of the 1500 metres. Christy Creagh and Seán McMullan ran very well in the 5000 metres and Seán also
competed in the 1500 metres.

Patrick Muldoon 2nd in Castlepollard 5k, Mullingar
runners dominant
The annual Castlepollard 5k took place on Friday 10th
July. There was a large turnout of runners for this very successful event. Mullingar runners were again to the fore. Patrick
Muldoon ran another excellent race and was just beaten into the second place in the closing stages, finishing a mere 3 seconds
behind the winner, Gerard Heery from St. Brigid's AC. Next Mullingar runner was Damien Bateman in 7th place, followed by Matt
Glennon, Denis Connolly (1st Junior), John Bannon (2nd V O/40), Ciaran Nolan, Caroline Harney (3rd in Senior Ladies race),
Vera Flynn,Nicky McCabe (1st V O/50), Paul McCool, Brigid McCabe, Louise Moore (1st Junior), Aine Devanney (2nd Junior), Ruth

Ronan Doolin in A 3rd in B 800m; Pat Muldoon 4th 3000m
at Dublin Graded Meeting
The final Dublin Graded Meeting of the season took place
in Santry on Wednesday 8th August. In very wet conditions there were some good performances from Mullingar athletes. Ronan
Doolin had an excellent run in the B 800m finishing 3rd in a personal best time of 2:04.1. Patrick Muldoon had a very good
run in the 3000m A , finishing fourth in a time of 8:57.0. Adrian Gurn also ran well. Meanwhile it was good to see Noel Conway
back in action, having a good run.

Patrick Muldoon 2nd in Daingean 5k, Mullingar athletes feature
prominently
The Annual Daingean 5k Road Race took place on Friday evening last.
On an excellent evening for running Mullingar athletes figured prominently in what was an excellently organised race.
Patrick Muldoon continued his recent excellent form, finishing
in 2nd place in the Senior Men's Race, just 3 seconds behind the winner. Matt Glennon showed that he is getting back to top
form, with an excellent run. Dennis Connolly had another very good run. He was followed by Pat Muldoon, having another solid
run and was 2nd V O/45. Next came Tom Cully, getting back into shape, Christy Creagh, 1st V O/55 and Séan McMullan 2nd in
the same category. Also running were Vera Flynn 2nd Lady Vet, Caroline Harney, well up in the Senior Ladies Race, Áine Devanney,
John Bannon and Paul McCool. The refresments afterwards as well as the extensive prize-giving were much appreciated by all
the athletes.

Mark Christie wins 1500m & 3000m titles at National U13-U18
T & F C'ships
The AAI National U13 - U18 Track and Field Championships took place
in Tullamore over the weekend. Run in perfect weather conditions these championships turned out to be very competitive and
every Mullingar athlete who competed gained valuable experience.
The highlight of the weekend from a Mullingar perspective was undoubtedly
Mark Christie's outstanding achievement in winning the Boys Under 16 1500 metre and 3000 metre titles. Mark is one of the
best athletes in the country in his age group and this the second year in a row that Mark has won both middle-distance titles
on the track. Martin Fagan was a convincing winner of the Boys Under 18 3000 metres, bringing an excellent track season to
a close. We also had many other athletes competing, some who were unlucky to miss out on a medal. Louise Moore put in a great
performance, finishing fifth in both the Girls Under 16 800 metres and 1500 metres events. Aoife Bateman finished a very good
sixth in her Walk event while Alan Stenson ran a solid race in the Boys Under 13 1500 metres. Justin Collins threw extremely
well in the Discus and just missed out on a medal, finishing 4th. David Hynes had another good run in the Boys Under 14 800
metres finishing 5th. One of the most improved athletes this year has undoubtedly been Dennis Connolly and he ran an excellent
race in the Boys Under 17 800 metres, setting a new personal best time. Ronan Doolin also excelled in the Boys Under 18 800
metres, also running a personal best. Kevin Duggan ran very well to reach the final of the Boys Under 13 100 metres.
These Championships were an excellent conclusion to the Track
and Field season and our athletes can now take a well deserved break before the commencement of the Cross Country season in

Excellent Performances from Ryan, Muldoon, Fagan and Bateman
The National Senior Track and Field Championships took place
in Morton Stadium, Santry on Saturday and Sunday last. The highlight of the Track and Field season, these Championships saw
many great performances, among them from Mullingar athletes. Pat Ryan put in a very good performance when winning the bronze
medal in the Senior Mens 10k Walk. In the Junior Mens 3000m, Patrick Muldoon ran his best race on the track to date when finishing
fifth in a very good time of 8:55.26. This is due reward for an athlete who has trained consistently over the last few years.
Conor Twomey also had a good run in what was a very competitive race, running a time of 9:34.49. In the Senior Mens 5000m,
Martin Fagan continued his excellent recent form with another fine run, when finishing fifth in a personal best time of 14:37.02.
Damien Bateman had an excellent weekend, qualifying for the final of the Senior Mens 800m, running times of 1.54.63 and 1.55.02
on consecutive days. Also on Saturday Mark Christie had another outstanding run when finishing fourth in the Schools International
3000m in Tullamore in a time of 8:48.21.

Bob Heffernan Memorial 4 Mile
The Bob Heffernan Memorial 4 Mile Road Race took place in Rathmoylan
Village, near Enfield on Wednesday last. A large Mullingar contingent took part. Dennis Connolly continued his great form,
winning the Junior Men's Race. Nollaig McEntaggert was an excellent 2nd in the Veterans O/45, while Christy Creagh was 3rd
in the Veterans O/50. Our Veterans Mens Team of Nollaig McEntaggert, Pat Muldoon, Christy Creagh and Seán McMullan won the
Veterans team prize. There were also good runs from Kieran Nolan, Ciarán O'Meara, Owen O'Meara and Adrian Gurn. In the Ladies
Race Caroline Harney had an excellent run, followed by Vera Flynn who was 3rd in the Veterans 0/35, Paula Murray, Brigid McCabe,
Martha Marshall and Ruth O'Meara and Orla Sheridan. Áine Devanney was 2nd in the Junior Ladies Race. Our Senior Women and
Veteran Women both came second in their respective team competitions.
Mullingar Harriers 2nd, Westmeath 3rd in Leinster Road Championships
The Athletics Leinster Senior Road Championships took place in
Tyrrellspass on Saturday evening, 14th July. On a fine evening for running Mullingar athletes excelled in what turned out
to be a small field. George Lonergan from Raheny was a convincing winner in the Senior Mens 10k in a time of 31:51 followed
by John Cullen, Liffey Valley (32:27), and Seán Dowling, Liffey Valley (32:31). First home for Mullingar was Nollaig McEntaggert
who had an excellent run, finishing 11th in 34:52. He was followed in quick succession by Adrian Gurn (35:18), an excellent
addition to the club, Denis Connolly (35:32) having a great run, Matt Glennon (35:53), Pat Muldoon (36:30) and Ciarán Nolan
(36:41). They combined excellently to finish 2nd in the Inter - club Competition and 3rd in the Inter - County Competition.
Anne Carroll from Tullamore was a clear winner of the Senior Ladies race, followed by Elaine Caul (Civil Service) and Tina
Doyle (Tinryland). All in all it was an excellent night's competition, and the Club would like to thank Martin Buckey-Tyrrellspass
Castle who sponsored the event and all the officials who ensured everything ran smoothly on the night.

Martin Fagan, Damien Bateman and Pat Muldoon all run PBs at Morton
Memorial Meet
The Morton Memorial Meet took place in Santry on Friday evening,
13th July. It was an excellent evening's competition culminating in the Morton Mile. There were four Mullingar Harriers athletes
in action. First up was Damien Bateman in the Mens Invitational 800m and he ran an outstanding race against top class opposition,
setting a new personal best time of 1:54.05. The performance of the night from a Mullingar perspective was undoubtedly was
Martin Fagan's superb run in the Mens Invitational 3000m. In a high class field of over 20 runners, Martin was always in contention
and finished really strongly in an excellent time of 8:12.19. This is excellent running for an athlete is still a Junior next
year. In the Junior Mens 1500m Pat Muldoon had a really good race, running a personal best time of 4:08.53. Also running was
Ronan Doolin in a Graded 800m and he can feel very satisfied with his performance. These perfomances should stand to the athletes
