The good weather enjoyed by us all on St. Patrick’s
Day didn’t just suit those attending the various parades but also put a bounce in the steps of the Mullingar
Harriers athletes that took part in the 5 mile road race in Ballivor. Organised by Fr. Murphy AC in Athboy,
the race was very well supported by athletes from Meath in particular and the fast course, which included a long incline over
the second mile, provided the runners with a good early season test.
Among the good field of competitors
was Ben Vaitkavichius who had a solid run, followed in by Tomas
Navickas who was having his first race on the road for some time and will no doubt feature strongly in future
road races including the Mullingar Road League in May. Maurice Looby was next
in, with Liam McGlynn not far behind and satisfied with his time but knows it
can improve. Good to see Justin Murtagh running well and continuing his return
to competitive athletics, Eddie Newman finding the 5 mile distance
relatively short as he continues his preparations for the Boston marathon, and Michael Hannon
completed the Mullingar contingent.
