Well done to Eddie Newman on safely negotiating the tough Boston Marathon course on 20th April, where he recorded a very good time of 3:12:35, having run very consistent 5km splits throughout. Eddie expressed satisfaction after with his performance and time as he knows Boston is not the easiest marathon course to run.

What Eddie mightn’t have known was that finishing behind him was another man from Westmeath, Joe O’Brien a native of Tyrrellspass but resident in the USA who was running as a guide for a blind athlete who finished first in category, which is a great testament to Joe’s expert guidance. It’s hard enough to tackle a marathon, without having to be responsible for someone else who depends on you to guide the way.
