It proved a very fruitful trip for the Mullingar teams that went to Navan
on Friday 5th June for the South O'Hanlon AC 4 mile road race, which was run in ideal cool but pleasant
running conditions, a break from the very hot weather of the few days preceding.
Running extremely well and
leading Mullingar home was Tomas Navickas in 4th place in a
time of 21:05, and brilliantly supported by Martin Lyons in 12th (21:43), the
evergreen master athlete Ben Vaitkavichius close on his heels in 13th (21:46),
Maurice Looby 16th (21:56), Vincent Connolly
20th (22:12) and Liam McGlynn 24th (22:35), all packing well to finish
2nd and 4th teams. Vincent
Connolly and Ben Vaitkavichius also picked up individual prizes into the bargain, 3rd Junior
for Vincent and 3rd master for Ben.
Team competition was very tight and Mullingar only lost out on
1st place to Armagh AC by a single point, and our other team was only 9 points away from 3rd prize. Paula
Murray meanwhile also had a great race and finished 1st in her master category in 26:02.
These are great results and congratulations to our Senior/Master athletes for continuing to "fly the flag"
for Mullingar so well on the road race circuit.
(Thanks to Matt Glennon for the report)
