Congratulations to Jake Byrne on being selected to compete at the World Youth Track and Field Championships in Bressanone, Italy on 8th - 12th July. This is a wonderful honour for one of the most promising young athletes in the Country. It is also a great honour for his family that are always a great support to him. His list of achievements is most impressive in middle distance and in cross country. Jake qualified for the World Championships with a superb run over 3,000m in a fast 8 minutes 30 seconds, which is great running for a 17 year old.

His opponents will include the top emerging Kenyans, Ethiopians, Americans, and of course athletes from all over Europe. His selection is another great honour for Mullingar Harriers and reflects the fine work being done at underage level in the Club. It is confidently expected that several more young athletes from the Club will put themselves in line for selection for the major athletic Championships in the next few years.
