The weather
stayed good on Sunday 26th July for the AAI National “B”
Track and Field Championships in Tullamore, which were for boys and girls under 13, 14 and 16 that didn’t qualify
for the Juvenile Championships in mid-July, also in Tullamore.
Boidu Sayeh was in sparkling form as he won
his 100m under 14 sprint in a close race, and took silver in the high jump.
The sprint victory will give him a great boost in confidence for the National Community Games Finals in Athlone in late August.
There was silver also for Victoria Harris in her 100m
u/14 sprint, which is a particularly good result for Victoria, as she is better known over the longer distances,
though she was forced to drop out of the 800m later on in the afternoon with a knee injury.
Also competing
in Tullamore were Glen Gaffney and Mervyn Harris,
who ran the 80m u/13 but didn’t finish in the medals, and later in the afternoon, they competed in
the 600m, where Glen finished an excellent 5th, with Mervyn
right behind him in 6th. Aine O’Reilly also competed,
in the 800m u/16, but despite having a good race and leading the pack through the bell, she finished 4th,
just outside the medals, but will have gained valuable race experience in a National final.
