On Sunday 20th September, Shane Fitzsimons will be in Newcastle, England when the Great North Run takes place. No, he won’t be joining the 54,000 participants that make this the biggest half-marathon in the World, he’s part of an Ireland Schools road relay team that will be competing against teams from England, Scotland and Wales as a warm-up event before the main race, much like the “Welcome the World Young Athletes Relays” that Mullingar took part in before the World cross country in Edinburgh in 2008.

The relay teams will comprise three members, running 200m, 1000m and 1500m, with Shane running the 1500m leg. We wish Shane the very best of luck on what should be a memorable occasion.
