Martin Fagan was hoping to build on his impressive victory a few weeks ago in the Boston Half
Marathon when he tackled the BUPA Great South Run in Portsmouth on Sunday 25th October. The Great South
Run is Europe’s largest 10 mile race with 21,000 runners and Martin took his place on the start line alongside some
of the top distance runners in the World wearing number 3 in the elite men’s section.
Staying with the leading
group up to 5km, he was forced to drop back a bit when the push came between 5km and 10km and was in the chasing pack to the
breakaway group of three, led by Britain’s top distance runner, and 2006 European Cross Country Champion, Mo Farah.
By the 15km mark, Martin had dropped to 6th place, a position he held up to the finish line at 16.1km.
The athletes that finished in front of him are World class and it’s great to see Martin having no fear of them
and running right up there with them as an equal.
