Our
new gym/weights room is proving most popular with Club members and the new layout is of great benefit to our sprinters, throwers,
jumpers and middle distance runners. Their core work is now done in an ideal environment and does not interfere with other
activities in the main hall. But probably the biggest asset of all is the arrival of Wayne Healy as a Club
member. Wayne is one of the best known weightlifters in Ireland, having competed in International competition for many years,
and his experience as a weights and conditioning coach is top class. Now living in Mullingar, his experience will be of enormous
benefit to all Club members, so all you budding shot putters and discus throwers have no excuse from now on.
Another
new addition in our Clubhouse is the magnificent new marble plaque with the names of all Club members who up to now have had
the honour of representing Ireland in International competition. Our first International to be selected to represent Ireland
was in 1979 and since then we have produced 69 International athletes, including six new ones in 2009. The "International
Roll of Honour" plaque was most generously donated by one of our first members and great Club man, Seamus
Gibney, himself an outstanding cross country runner with his native County Louth.
It is also hoped to
have a photographic display of many of our Club members who competed for us down through the years. We hope to complete this
project during the coming year.
