Keep fit with the Mullingar Road League during May!
We are all aware of the benefits of exercise and participation in sport and judging
from the huge increase in registrations for the 2011 League when nearly 700 runners joggers and walkers registered over the 4
evenings, compared to 630 in 2010, the popularity of 5km races like the Mullingar Road League continues to grow,
so it is expected that large numbers will again participate in the 2012 Mullingar Road League on the five
Wednesday evenings in May, starting at 8pm each evening
The aim of the Mullingar
Road League is to promote participation in sport and physical activity and to honour the memory of Pat Finnerty,
a former Chairman who gave enormous service to Mullingar Harriers over many years. The League caters for runners,
joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities. The organisers are encouraging as many as possible to take part. It is
ideal preparation for ladies who plan to participate in the Women’s Mini-Marathon in June. An interesting
statistic is that in 2011, more women than men took part, so any lady thinking of taking part needn't think she'll
be the only lady there!...
In 2011, the Mullingar Road League was a great success with
nearly 700 runners joggers and walkers registering over the four nights and enjoying the beautiful woodland setting
in Belvedere. Even before we finished the last race in 2011, there were enquiries about the 2012 event and
the organisers are hoping that this will be reflected in the turnout this year. The Organising Committee is appealing to the
people of Westmeath and the Midlands to support this event
