While some Club members were competing indoors
in Scotland, others were competing at the AAI Masters Cross Country Championships,
which were held in ideal conditions at Piercestown, Co. Wexford on Sunday 10th February. The sunny south east
lived up to its reputation and the sun shone for a while. The Master men athletes from Mullingar took part in a very
competitive race on a tough undulating course.
Noel Kelly had an excellent dubut to
the Master cross country ranks with a fine 3rd place finish overall, which also placed him 3rd in his age-category. Ben Vaitkavichius
impressed with a fine 24th overall finish to place 2nd in his age-category. Matt Glennon
was competing in the most competitive age-category where he placed a very respectable 20th place. Pat Muldoon Senior
made a return to cross country running with a fine 17th place finish in his age-category while Christy Creagh
made winning his age-category look easy. Finally, Sean McMullin used the race as part of his preparations for the World Masters
Indoor Championships in France on 17th
to 22nd March and finished 9th in his age-category.
For the record, Mullingar finished 10th
Club overall and congratulations to one and all for their efforts.
