Leinster Indoor Championships 2008 : Days 1 and 2

While the focus at the Sports Star of the Year Awards was on the current stars of Mullingar Harriers, some of the future stars were in action the day after at the Leinster Juvenile Indoor Championships at the Nenagh Indoor Complex.

As many of the Club's middle-distance athletes are still involved with the Schools cross country championships and decided not to compete at the Indoors, Mullingar had a small number of athletes in action in Nenagh. However, the quality of performances was still very high.

In total, 3 gold medals were won, 3 silver, 1 bronze and there were 4 fourth place finishes and many more excellent performances.

Amie Giles under 16 girls 1,500m Gold

Linda Conroy u/13 girls 600m Gold

Shane Fitzsimons u/14 boys 800m Gold

Glen Gaffney u/12 boys 600m Silver

Beth McGuire u/14 girls 800m Silver

Diarmaid Hyland u/17 boys 60m Silver

Ann Marie Kennedy u/14 girls 60m Bronze

Blond Aoife Hogan u/18 girls 60m 4th

Lorraine Daly u/14 girls 800m 4th

Warren Walsh u/17 boys 800m 4th

Dark haired Aoife Hogan u/18 girls 800m 4th

Oisin Quinn u/12 boys 600m 6th, 60m 7th

Also competing were:

Lauren Casey (u/13 girls 600m), Jane Leydon (u/14 girls long jump and 60m), Jessica McCormack and Faye Walsh (u/12 girls 60m), David Moran (u/17 boys 60m) who all competed well but such was the standard of competition, failed to get among the medals.

A total of 7 athletes now qualify as of right to the National indoor finals in April. As always, thanks to the parents who provided transport and travelled the long journey to Nenagh in support.
