Mullingar Harriers was certainly
the envy of other Clubs at the Leinster juvenile cross country relays at Tinryland on Sunday 20th January. To win one team
gold medal at a Leinster Championship is a good result, to win all six titles on offer is astounding and is clear evidence
if any is needed of what an excellent group of underage athletes the Club is fortunate to have at the moment. A clean sweep
of the titles hasn’t been done before, so again, Mullingar Harriers sets a new standard. Clearly the preparatory work
put in by Joe Ryan on the training ground paid off handsomely, but also the excellent
conditioning work in the gym with Tommy Carr really paid a rich dividend over the shorter faster race distances.

Relay racing is all about team effort
and everyone must play their full part if a team is to succeed. The juveniles showed great commitment to each other and ran
their hearts out to try and give as much lead as possible to their team mates. Enormous credit must go to them all for competing
so well and being a part of a historic day for the Club. It was heartening to see the delight taken in the Club’s success
by all the athletes, whether they won medals or not.
