The
North Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships in Santry on 7th and 9th May were particularly
good for several of our Club members. It was most gratifying to see so many of them getting in to the medals and so qualify
for the Leinster finals on 17th and 21st May.
Amie Giles and Jake Byrne,
representing St. Joseph’s Rochfortbridge, both recorded impressive doubles. Thomas Lynn
of St. Finian’s College also had a double victory, Lee Stenson of Mullingar
Community College won gold and silver, Elizabeth Carr and Shane
Boggs of St. Finian’s both won silver medals, as did Niamh Byrne
of Wilson’s Hospital, and Patrick Fagan of St. Mary’s CBS won bronze.
Others in action included Warren Walsh and Lisa
Darby, (St. Joseph’s Rochfortbridge), Kevin Glennon, Paul Ryan and Eamon Lawlor (St. Finian’s
College), Stephen Nea, Ian McCormack
and David Moran (St. Mary’s CBS).
Paul
Collins of St. Finian’s College (and North Westmeath AC) also brought off a great double in the shot
putt and discus.
Also it was most refreshing to see other local athletes, who are not Club members,
display amazing talent, such as David Lynch and Killian Daly (St. Mary’s CBS), both
winning silver medals, Aaron Smith, Aidan Harding, Brian McGowan, Jack
Brennan, Chris Murray and Saoirse Murphy (St. Finian’s
College) and Adam Corcoran (St. Mary’s CBS).
Hopefully we will be hearing more of their
achievements in the Leinster Schools Championships
