International Roll of Honour
In recognition of the 59 members (so far) of Mullingar Harriers AC that have represented
Ireland, we've developed an International Roll of Honour
The Intenational Roll of Honour
gives the names of the athletes and the year they gained their first International vest
This list will be reproduced on a special wall plaque to be erected in the Clubhouse
Successful appeal for coaching assistance
Sincere thanks to the many
parents who have answered the call for assistance in coaching the many very young juvenile athletes in the Club. A
rota has been drawn up for the Tuesday and Thursday training nights at the Club.
With so many willing volunteers, the load is
greatly lightened but if there are any others who would like to help out, you're more than welcome, even if it only
to rake the long jump pit, or bring out the hurdles, or get relay teams ready. You really don’t need any previous experience
as the existing coaches will point you in the right direction and advise what needs to be done. Don’t worry, there’s
no deep end to be thrown into! Even just the odd evening would be a great help.
OLDER NEWS & RESULTS
South Connaught Schools Track and Field
Representing Moate Community College with distinction on Wednesday 30th April were Arlene Coughlan, Aoife Hogan and Thomas Fagan. Arlene recorded
a magnificent 800m/1500m middle-distance double, Thomas won his 1500m and was third in the 800m, while Aoife won her
800m and was second in the 200m having recovered brilliantly from a bad stumble at the start.
They have now qualified for the Connaught Regional Championships on 15th May and taken
the first important step towards the All-Ireland Schools on 31st May.
Cushinstown AC Open Sports
It was probably due to the terrible
weather, but despite the great interest expressed by many at training in attending the Cushinstown AC Open Sports on
Sunday 20th April, only Boidu Sayeh, Chloe
Molloy and Kelly Molloy travelled
and competed on the day. Braving the wind, rain and cold, Boidu easily won his heat of the 100m and in the final was only
narrowly beaten into second place in a very close finish. Kelly also qualified easily from her heat but was beaten into 4th
place, just out of the prizes, in a close final, while younger sister Chloe ran extremely well to take second place in
her 100m final. Well done to them all and no doubt we'll see more good performances from them in the coming
months.
AAI 10km Road Championships
At the far side of the Country, competing in slightly breezy
but otherwise ideal conditions, Ben Vaitkavichius, Christy
Creagh and Sean McMullin
competed in the AAI 10km Road Championships in Athenry, Co. Galway on 20th April, where Ben and Christy took silver in their master age-categories and Sean bronze in his master age-category. Fantastic results for these dedicated
master athletes.
Finish
line video footage seems to be all the rage at the moment. Follow the link to Athenry AC and you'll see
Ben 6 minutes into the video, Christy 14 minutes and Sean 16 minutes Video Clip
Zurich Marathon
Even further afield on 20th April, Colm Walsh was among the 4,588
finishers of the Zurich Marathon, recording an impressive 3:08, which placed him well up in his mens category.
Colm reports that it was a tough marathon, especially the last 5 miles and he was both relieved and delighted to finish (all
marathon runners must know the feeling!!). Congratulations to Colm on his excellent performance.
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you can see a video clip of Colm crossing
the finish line. Click on the following link (allow the video clip to download) and you'll see Colm about 27
